Unlock Your Career in Canada with the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP)

The Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) provides international students who complete eligible programs in Canada the opportunity to gain Canadian work experience, enhance their career prospects, and potentially move toward permanent residency.

Who Can Apply for a PGWP?

To qualify, international graduates must meet the following requirements:

Completion of a Full-Time Program at a Recognized Institution

Programs must be full-time, at least 8 months long, and completed at a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) in Canada.

Graduated from an Eligible Canadian Institution

This includes public post-secondary schools or certain private institutions authorized to award degrees under provincial law.

Apply Within the 180-Day Window

Applications must be submitted within 180 days of receiving your final transcript or confirmation of program completion.

Valid Study Permit Required

You must have a valid study permit at the end of your program or one that expired within the last 90 days.

No Previous PGWP Issued

Applicants who have already received a PGWP for another program are not eligible.

Recent Updates and Key Requirements (2024–2025)

Canada has introduced new PGWP rules that applicants should be aware of:

  • Full-Time Presence in Canada: Students must be physically present in Canada for the entire duration of their studies. Time spent outside Canada will reduce your PGWP length.
  • In-Person Attendance: At least 50% of your program must be delivered in-person (including hybrid or flexible programs with mandatory on-campus sessions).
  • Language Proficiency Standards (Effective Nov 2024):
    • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral programs: CLB 7 (English) or NCLC 7 (French) in all 4 skills.
    • Other university programs: CLB 7 / NCLC 7 in all 4 skills.
    • College, polytechnic, or non-university programs: CLB 5 / NCLC 5 in all 4 skills.
    • Flight school graduates: No language requirement applies.

Important: Not all programs are eligible. Check the official IRCC updates or consult an expert to confirm program eligibility.
